Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information The Math Index collects when you use themathindex.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. The Math Index is a free math lesson and reference site for students, parents, teachers and tutors.

Who we are

The Math Index is a registered business name (DBA) of Pyle Industries LLC, which runs themathindex.com (“we” or “us”). If you have a question about this policy or your information, email us at info@themathindex.com or use our Contact Us page.

The short version

  • You can read every lesson without creating an account or telling us who you are.
  • We collect basic usage data, such as which pages are visited, to see which lessons help and to keep the site running.
  • We only get your name or email address if you send them to us, for example through our contact form.
  • We do not sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

Information we collect

Information you give us

Contact form: When you send us a message, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect some information automatically when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how long you stay, and the site that sent you here. It comes from the services listed below and from our web host’s server logs.

Services we use

We use a few outside services to run the site. Each one handles data under its own privacy policy.

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how many people visit and which pages they use. It uses cookies. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Google Fonts (Google LLC) supplies the fonts used for the site’s text. When a page loads, your browser requests these fonts from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.
  • Jetpack (Automattic Inc.) provides site statistics, login security and faster image delivery. Some images are delivered from WordPress.com servers, so those servers receive your IP address. See Automattic’s privacy policy.
  • HostGator, our web host, keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
  • Amazon Associates: Our calculator and book guides link to Amazon. When you click one of these links, Amazon can tell the visit came from us and may set its own cookies on its site. We earn a commission on qualifying purchases, but we never see who you are or your payment details. Amazon’s privacy notice applies on its site.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. We use:

  • Analytics cookies, mainly from Google Analytics, to count visits and see how pages are used.
  • Login cookies that keep site editors signed in. These only apply to people who manage the site.

We do not use advertising cookies at this time. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the lessons will still work.

How we use information

  • To see which lessons are useful and improve them
  • To reply to your messages
  • To keep the site secure and working
  • To meet our legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build profiles of visitors.

Children and teens

The Math Index is for students 13 and older, as well as parents, teachers and tutors. It is not directed to children under 13. Our pages about elementary math tools and books are written for parents and teachers.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please don’t use our contact form. Ask a parent or guardian to contact us instead. If we learn that we received personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. Parents can email info@themathindex.com with any concerns.

If you are 13 to 17, please ask a parent or guardian before sending us a message.

How long we keep information

  • Contact messages: only as long as we need them to reply and follow up.
  • Analytics data: visit-level data is kept in Google Analytics for up to 14 months.
  • Server and security logs: for the limited time our host and security tools keep them.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we have about you by emailing info@themathindex.com.
  • You can block cookies in your browser or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

We will respond to requests as soon as we reasonably can. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state’s or country’s privacy laws, and we will honor them where they apply.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. Our site does not currently change how it works when it receives these signals. Because we don’t sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, there is nothing on our site for these signals to opt you out of. You can still block analytics with the options above.

Security

The site uses HTTPS encryption, and access to the site’s admin area is limited and protected. No website can be perfectly secure, so please don’t send sensitive information, like passwords or ID numbers, through our contact form.

Visitors outside the United States

The Math Index is run from the United States. The services described above may process information in the United States and other countries.

Links to other websites

Our pages link to other sites, such as Amazon and calculator makers. Once you leave our site, that site’s own privacy policy applies.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our practices change, for example before adding ads or videos. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. For significant changes, we will also post a notice on the site.
