Parent Functions
A parent function is the simplest function in a family of functions. Every other function in the family is the parent shifted, stretched or flipped. For example, y = x² is the parent of every quadratic, such as y = (x − 3)² + 1. If you know each parent’s shape, you can sketch and recognize graphs fast.
